London Westbank Gallery – Graffiti Class with Gabriel T
I had a great time at the London Westbank Gallery last week Saturday 18th July 2015.
Yes, I attended a 2 hour graffiti class. I’ve wanted to do this for a while now and I’m really glad I did it, it was interesting and fun!
9 people attended the class, and we were there for all different reasons, whether is was a birthday present, or just fancied trying it for fun, and not everyone there was a designer or an artist. Our experienced teacher Gabriel T (in photo above) is an actual true graffiti artist, so that was a BIG plus for me, I couldn’t wait to start.
We learned the tricks behind basic areas such as outlines and shades, fades shadows and shines, and then other advance techniques. We had to think of a “Tag” (name), mine of course was “ATA”. Then we were taught different techniques like how to make-up the lettering before finally drawing and developing our own “Tag”. I must say, it was much harder than I thought to develop my tag, but I was determined.
After about an hour developing our tags… Came the fun part…using the spray can..Yess!
We went outside into the front area of the gallery. Where boards were already set-up from previous classes… This is where we attempted to finally create our graffiti tag, I was so excited!
We learned how to control the can when spraying. Achieving sharp lines…I found a little difficult at first, but once I got into the hang of it I was fine. You’d be amazed at how much you can do.
So… my first attempt is not brilliant, but not bad…I’m happy with that, and I want to do more. Perhaps, start developing murals based on the black and white designs I already have. As after all, that is what I want to finally achieve. At the moment I’ve hand painted some murals in my garden and I have a couple of commissions, I will show you this in another blog. It’ll be exciting to develop a new technique.
We had an fab teacher, the class was fun, and I highly recommend the course.
Thank you Gabriel T, you were amazing! I’m going to be calling you to help me develop my skills
At the Gallery
After the course had finished, I thought I’d look around the gallery, and here is some of what’s on show. Enjoy:
