I’m so proud to be among one of 100 artists, architects, and designers participating in the 10×10 Drawing the City London project.  In August this year the invited participants attended the Drawing Weekend (9th & 10th August).  This started off with an opening held at the Shard and Jack Pringle (Chair of Article 25, the beneficiary charity of 10×10) welcomed everyone to the project.  We then watched a video by Smith Grant of the Gourcy School Project, Burkina Faso, to highlight for us why the 10×10 Drawing the City London project is such an important event.  After a chance for some exciting networking, we went off to our designated areas around London to start our inspired pieces.

10×10 London divides an area of the city into a 10×10 grid. The 100 resulting squares are allocated to prominent architects, designers and artists, who create 100 unique perspectives of London.

10×10 London creates an artistic snapshot of London and raises money for Article 25, the United Kingdom’s leading architectural and construction aid charity. Article 25 designs and oversees the construction of safe, appropriate buildings in the developing world that ensure basic needs like health are met.

Each artist creates a piece of artwork whether it be a painting, sketch drawing, whatever their preferred medium, the finished artwork is then auctioned to raise money for Article 25 charity project.

The online auction is now open! You can bid on the 100 unique pieces of artwork HERE

This year 10×10 London has partnered with The Shard and the AUCTION will take place on November 27th on the 24th floor of the London landmark.

About “Leadenhall Street” Painting

I was allocated the area of The Gherkin, Lloyd’s Building.  It was awesome getting this area as I know it so well.  I wasn’t sure at first how to approach this as the Gherkin has been painted, sketched etc. so many times.   Originally, I wanted to capture the area by incorporating local news through a local newspaper of the area into the painting, but unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything.  So, as I love working with textures, I thought I’d bring texture into the work instead.  There were a lot of tourists around, and a bike event on, so I had many ideas flying around in my head and moments to try to capture during this beautiful Saturday afternoon with the sun shining what more could you ask for.

My final piece entitled “Leadenhall Street” is an abstract piece capturing the tourists and the Gherkin on a huge scale. Using heavy black paint strokes to represent the strength of the city.  I used a mixture of charcoal, acrylic paint and Indian Ink to create this piece.  Painted on textured paper.

Thank you 10×10 for inviting me to this project.
